Mount Pleasant sits in the heart of the Peak District, Derbyshire — a self-build home that blends modern performance with historic character. Originally built as a chapel in 1892 and left derelict since 1993, the site demanded a highly sensitive approach to both design and construction. Lyn and Russel appointed McVeigh Offsite to help transform this historic structure into a contemporary home while preserving its original charm.
Working within the footprint of a 19th-century chapel brought unique challenges: restricted access, fragile original walls, and no option for crane access. The build required a solution that delivered precision, speed, and energy efficiency — while respecting the building’s historical integrity.
We worked closely with the clients and their design team to carefully plan each stage of the build, ensuring the preservation of the original structure while introducing modern construction benefits.
Mount Pleasant now stands as a modern, energy-efficient home that retains the character of its original chapel form. The project demonstrates how SIPs can successfully blend heritage preservation with high-performance construction.
